If you’re connecting an AI assistant to Hoard and something isn’t working, this page covers the snags we see most. The short version of the happy path lives in Talk to your store, and the connector URL is always the same:

The sign-in window never opens, or closes instantly

When you connect, your assistant should pop open a Hoard sign-in window. If it never appears or flashes shut: Cause: A popup blocker, or a work-network firewall, is blocking the sign-in window. Fix:
  1. Allow popups for your assistant’s site (claude.ai, chatgpt.com).
  2. Try connecting again.
  3. If you’re on a workplace or school network, try from a personal network, some firewalls block the sign-in handshake.

The assistant says it doesn’t have any Hoard tools

You connected, but when you ask a question the assistant says it can’t see your store or has no Hoard tools available. Cause 1 — the connector didn’t finish connecting. The sign-in or the Allow step didn’t complete. Fix: Remove the Hoard connector, add it again with https://mcp.tryhoard.com/mcp, sign in to Hoard in the window that opens, and click Allow on the consent screen. Then start a fresh chat. Cause 2 — you’ve used up your monthly assistant allowance. Every plan, including free, can connect an assistant and read your store, so a free plan does not remove the Hoard tools. Plans differ on how much assistant use is included per month: 100 units on free, 500 on Gold, 1,000 on Platinum, 5,000 on Diamond. A read costs 1 unit, a write costs 4. Past the allowance, calls are charged against prepaid credits. A write is refused with an insufficient-credits error when your credit balance doesn’t cover the charge. Reads aren’t blocked by that check, so they can keep working past the allowance. Listing the tools is never metered, so an exhausted allowance doesn’t produce a missing-tools message. Fix: Check the MCP usage card on Settings → Billing. Buy credits there, or pick a plan with a larger allowance at tryhoard.com/pricing. Cause 3 — ChatGPT only. Custom connectors require a paid OpenAI plan (Plus, Pro, or Business). Fix: Connectors won’t appear in ChatGPT settings on the free tier. Upgrade your OpenAI plan, then add the connector. Cause 4 — ChatGPT only. You’re in the newer Apps flow, but the draft app was created with the wrong setup path or an incomplete OAuth scan. Fix: Delete the draft app, then recreate it from Settings → Apps → Create. Paste https://mcp.tryhoard.com/mcp, choose OAuth if ChatGPT asks for the auth type, finish the Hoard sign-in, and wait for ChatGPT’s tool scan to finish before clicking Create.

I asked it to change something and nothing happened

The assistant answered, but the price (or rule) you asked it to change is untouched. Cause: The ability to make changes is off by default. Out of the box an assistant can read your store but not edit it. Fix:
  1. Open Settings → Assistants.
  2. Under Let it change prices (optional), click Turn on price changes.
  3. Ask again, the assistant will show you a preview with a risk rating, and you confirm before it commits.
If it still won’t, the action may be dashboard-only for now. What your assistant can do has the honest list of what’s exposed today versus what’s still dashboard-only.

It changed less than I asked, or asked me to confirm every step

That’s the safety model working, not a bug. Every change runs through preview → confirm → commit, and hard price floors sit underneath. How much the assistant does on its own versus how often it stops to ask is controlled by your permission mode. Fix: Your current modes are listed under Show current permission grants on Settings → Assistants. They are seeded when you first turn price changes on and are not editable in the UI yet, so the only control on that page is the overall on/off switch. I revoked an assistant and now I want it back

Revoking cuts access immediately and on purpose, the assistant can’t refresh its way back in. Fix: Reconnect from scratch by following the connect guide for your assistant again. It’s the same few clicks as the first time.

Reads work but my numbers look stale

The assistant always shows your last-synced state, it reads the data Hoard has already collected, it doesn’t log into TCGplayer itself. Fix: Ask it to trigger a sync (a write action, so you’ll need permissions turned on), or run a sync from your dashboard or Hoard Desktop. If syncs themselves are failing, that’s a different problem, see sync issues.
