# What to do when Hoard can't match a card to your catalog

> Why a scanned batch lands entirely in Needs review, a Quick Add search comes up empty, or a synced card shows no image or TCGplayer link, and how to fix it.

Three different intake paths — scan and review, Quick Add, and CSV or sync — can all hit the same underlying problem: Hoard couldn't confidently tie a card to a specific product in its catalog. It shows up differently depending on the path, but the fixes are related.

## A whole scanned batch lands in "Needs review"

Scan and review's matcher only covers some games so far. If a game has no coverage yet, every item you upload for it still gets accepted, but lands in Needs review with nothing to pick from — no candidates, just a manual search box. If your entire batch looks like this, that's usually why, not a problem with your photos.

Badges on individual items tell you what's going on:

* **Possible match** (orange) — Hoard found a plausible candidate but isn't confident enough to call it likely.
* **Low confidence** (rose) — the top candidate is weak, or nothing matched. Zero-candidate items show only a manual search box.

For any of these, use **Search all cards** for a quick name search, or **Browse catalog** for the full recovery view — it keeps your scan visible while you search by name, exact printed number, set, rarity, printing, or language. Choose the right result and click **Save match**.

A **Likely match** badge is a strong signal, not a guarantee. If a whole batch looks off — confident badges pointing at cards that clearly aren't what you photographed — that game's catalog coverage is probably thin. Spot-check the first few Likely matches whenever you scan a new game for the first time.

## Quick Add's set browser doesn't have your card

Quick Add's search only searches within catalog it has loaded for that game. If a card genuinely doesn't come up:

* Double check you're on the right game tab — a search for a Pokemon card while the Magic tab is active won't find it.
* Try searching by set name and browsing the set directly instead of searching by card name — some promos and oddball printings are easier to spot visually than to match by typed name.
* If the card has no TCGplayer catalog product at all (a signed card, a graded slab, something photo-only), it isn't a Quick Add card in the first place — see [list a graded, signed, or photographed card on TCGplayer](/how-to/list-a-graded-slab-or-signed-card-on-tcgplayer).

## A synced or CSV-imported card shows no image and no TCGplayer link

During sync, Hoard resolves each inventory card to a specific catalog product using your TCGplayer SKU data first, then falls back to matching by name and set if that's missing. That fallback normalizes set names in a few ways — for example stripping parenthetical notes, converting "8th Edition" to "Eighth Edition," or moving a Commander prefix to a suffix — and also tries stripping variant tags like "(Showcase)" and splitting on dashes for crossover cards.

A card can still fall through all of that when:

* The set name on the card is unusual enough that normalization doesn't line it up with the catalog's version.
* It's a promo, alternate-art, or regional variant with a name or number that doesn't cleanly match anything.
* It's a double-faced card and only the back face's name made it into your data (front-face matching handles the common case, not every case).

When this happens, the card still exists in your inventory — it just won't have an image or a direct TCGplayer catalog link until it resolves. It doesn't block the card from being priced or synced.

## What to do about it

There's no manual re-match tool for synced or CSV-imported cards today. If a card consistently won't resolve, double check the set name and card name in your TCGplayer listing match what TCGplayer's own catalog calls that printing — a typo or an old set naming convention on your end is the most common cause. If it looks correct on TCGplayer's side and still isn't resolving in Hoard, contact [support@tryhoard.com](mailto:support@tryhoard.com) with the card so the normalization rule can be checked against it.
