# Trigger a TCGplayer sync from Claude or ChatGPT

> Ask Claude or ChatGPT to trigger a TCGplayer sync from your AI assistant, and understand what happens after you ask.

Checking whether a sync ran is a free read. Actually kicking one off is a write action — it tells Hoard to go pull fresh data and recompute your prices.

## Step 1: Check status first

Before asking for a fresh sync, it's worth confirming you actually need one — see [check your sync health](/how-to/ai-assistant/check-tcgplayer-sync-health) for the read-only version of this question. If data already looks current, triggering a sync just uses up part of your daily cadence for nothing.

## Step 2: Ask for the sync

> "Trigger a sync."

This is a write, so it counts differently against your monthly usage allowance than a read does.

## Step 3: Understand what happens next

Asking your assistant to trigger a sync only queues a sync cycle. It doesn't run instantly, and it still needs your desktop agent running somewhere to actually log into TCGplayer and pull fresh data — the same as clicking Sync Now from the dashboard. If your desktop agent isn't running, queuing a sync won't make anything happen until it is.

## Cadence limits by plan

On-demand syncs aren't unlimited. Your plan sets the fastest automatic schedule you can run, and that same cadence generally governs how often a fresh pull is worth asking for: weekly on free and Gold, daily on Platinum, every 4 hours on Diamond and Vault. If you ask for a sync more often than that, don't expect meaningfully different data back — the underlying schedule is what determines how fresh TCGplayer's own numbers are.
