# Ask your AI assistant why a card has that price

> Use Hoard's connected AI assistant to inspect a TCGplayer card's governing pricing rule, source price, floors, blockers, and current rule evaluation before changing anything.

If one of your TCGplayer listings looks wrong, start by asking why it has that price. This is a read-only investigation of **your own store**, not a public quote for the card and not a request to override its listing price.

## Step 1: Identify the exact listing

Give the assistant the card name, set, condition, and finish if you know them. A card name alone may match several printings or multiple listings in your store.

> "Why is my Near Mint non-foil \[card] from \[set] priced where it is? Identify the exact listing first. Show its listed and target prices, market source, governing rule, any floor or cap, and any blocker. Do not change anything."

The assistant can find the listing and read Hoard's per-card pricing explanation. Ask it to say when a field is unavailable instead of filling it in from general card knowledge.

## Step 2: Check the rule as it stands now

If the stored explanation and the listing still seem out of step, ask:

> "Evaluate that card against my current rules and compare the computed target with the stored target. If they differ, tell me what could be stale. Don't apply a change."

The explanation reflects the stored pricing match. A separate rule evaluation computes the target from the current rules. A difference is a diagnostic clue, not proof that either number should be pushed to TCGplayer. ## Step 3: Choose the right action

* If the source or condition is wrong, inspect the listing and your settings in Hoard before changing a rule.
* If a rule is too broad or too narrow, ask the assistant to [prepare a reviewed pricing-rule proposal](/how-to/ai-assistant/propose-a-pricing-rule-matrix). Read the affected-card count and impact before you approve it.
* If one card needs a manual lock or one-off override, use the Hoard dashboard. The assistant cannot create arbitrary per-card price overrides through chat today.

This read does not change a listing. Pricing-rule proposals go through Hoard's review step; some Smart Actions have different direct-apply behavior, so check the [full read/write capability map](/agent-capabilities) before accepting one.

## Public price versus your price

For a public market-price lookup without your store connection, use [tcgmcp](https://www.tryhoard.com/mcp-for-tcg-prices). It can answer what the public market reference says, but it cannot explain the rule, floor, lock, or sync state behind **your** listing.
